Residencies
We are a multidisciplinary research centre in the performing, visual and design arts.
With an annual residency programme, we offer listening, space and resources to emerging generations of artists, with a focus on queer, racialised and disabled communities, providing a protected space for research and production.
HIGHLIGHTS
We are committed to building long-term collaborations, involving artists-in-residence in the co-design of the Public Programme and BASE’s productions. We try to trigger an open and real dialogue with artists, creatives and designers, exploring ideas and approaches on how to address contemporary issues.
Rules of the Game
-
EXPERIMENTATION LABORATORY
We give space to process: free space to make mistakes, to try and experiment, to think and produce, to create and share. We establish long-term relationships with artists and work alongside them to experiment with new ideas, at the intersection of performance art and design, photography and dance, public art and music.
-
THE CURE IS POLITICAL
We provide technical support, mentoring and financial resources by guaranteeing a space for research and production, fostering the connection between the artistic community and the local context, and offering a dedicated, protected and comfortable work space and hospitality.
-
BEING A CITY WORKSHOP
Imagining new forms of living is not only the task of architecture: we support emerging artists in the area and challenge the artistic community to immerse themselves in the reality of the city in order to break rules and boundaries, reconfigure spaces and human relations, and bring art and the public dimension into dialogue through artistic languages.
-
ENGINE OF CHANGE
Rethinking the contemporary through artistic languages: our residency programme exposes bodies, identities, cultures and unforeseen natures, fitting into BASE’s broader framework of reflection, which sees us committed to mitigate forms of racialisation and cultural colonialism, abilism and gender discrimination.
