Qūmī قومي — Della Violenza (“On Violence”)

An original project that, following the research trajectory initiated by Barrani, forms a diptych centered on the female* voices of the Mediterranean South: a space for performative research in which to reflect and practice together around the theme of women’s* reclamation of violence and strength within the Mediterranean context.

In Arabic, Qūmī means “rise,” “stand up,” or “lift yourself up,” and is conjugated in the feminine form. It is the second project dedicated to sound by CORPS CITOYEN.

Qūmī is a journey between Souths, between memories and struggles, between magic and politics. An artistic and political research project intertwining postcolonial feminisms, bodily practices, and archaic rituals, questioning possibilities of resistance and reclamation within contexts marked by colonialism, patriarchy, and inequality.

BIO

Corps Citoyen (الجسد المواطن) is a multidisciplinary artistic collective producing shared projects and individual works in collaboration with artists and professionals.

Founded in 2013 in Tunis by Anna Serlenga and Rabii Brahim, the collective creates performative works, participatory processes, and curatorial devices in alliance with ecosystems that cut across geographies, social strata, languages, and artistic forms, building collective paths of artistic experimentation and political transformation.

Since 2018, the collective has been based in Milan, expanding its team with Manuel D’Onofrio (technical direction and sound research) and Vittoria Lombardi (curation, international networking, and project development).

Since 2020, Corps Citoyen has developed a decolonial performative research practice and, since 2022, has been associated with BASE Milano (2022–2024) and the European platform for creation in public space IN SITU (since 2023). Parallel to this, in 2020 it founded the decolonial curatorial project Milano Mediterranea.

Co-produced with Sardegna Teatro.
