A kind of training for creative professions, regeneration and culture.
Or rather: a sottospecie [eng subspecies].
Exhibition curator, museum director, art director, critic, researcher.
Would you ever think of a young person in these roles?
One who lives or grew up in the suburbs?
We do.
From February 2025, participate in sottospecie and be part of a new generation of culture workers.
THIS COURSE
is designed for curious people who are not satisfied with easy explanations. For people who want to jump into things but first want to understand what’ s underneath an old factory that opens its doors every day and is something different: an exhibition hall, a coworking space, a stage, a square, a place where people dance until late.
And for who’s between 18 and 23 years old (not us).
WHY ARE WE DOING IT
Because we feel the need to give space to a new generation of workers in a sector that often seems incomprehensible and unreachable but is actually made for people (or at least it should be).
We want to share with you everything we, as culture professionals, have learnt in the field and give you the space to put it into practice.
We thought about BASE in 10 years from now and saw you there.
ABOUT YOU
You’re a tireless creator and you are not satisfied with easy explanations. Or*. You’re into urban regeneration and would like to change Milan, or at least a little part of it. Or else. You have a perfect format in mind but no one to talk to. Or. You are a curator of the unexpected, navigator of controlled chaos. Or. You have studied Marketing excellence and business management and development for sustainability applied to contemporary art and cultural disciplines and are still trying to explain to your mother what that means (we don’t know either). Or. On Fridays you’re under the speaker. Or. You like a bit of everything, have lots of dreams and don’t know what to do with them yet.
*Or none of the above: it’s nothing exclusive. The idea is to get out of the usual algorithms and reach even those who don’t care about culture at all.
ABOUT US
Perhaps you already know us: we are BASE Milano, a cultural centre. Almost a theatre, not quite a museum, an indoor and also an outdoor square, a space for getting together, a venue, a concert hall.
We are all these things together and much more.
And we use ‘*Or’ (and not ‘rather than ’) correctly even though we are in Milan, that gives us 1000 points come on 🙂
And now we start with splaining.
(A LITTLE) THEORY
from February to September 2025
7 training modules on creative professions by BASE staff and our network of partners
From the regeneration of a space to the organisation of events, up to the practical management of a cultural centre, passing through communication strategies and the engagement of new people, up to the management of budgets and fundraising with partnerships and projects… In short, we start from the BASE of a cultural project.
Forget about school mode: we will take you on an imaginative journey, revealing the tricks of the trade that we have often learnt thanks to many epic failures, but not only: through the recounting of other experiences in Italy and visits to cities, you will immediately have the opportunity to ‘’knock yourself out‘’ by putting yourself to the test with a project work.
(A LOT OF) PRACTICE
from May to December 2025
3 field workshops related to artistic practice
A series of activities in public space to get in touch with artists and the territory, listen to people’s voices and discover how art can breathe new life into city spaces.
from October 2025
1 apprenticeship course for 10 people (600 hours, paid)
You will step into our shoes and follow us through our daily buzz: from organising a festival or a music event to developing a communication campaign. It will be a real gymnasium, where you can rotate between the various teams, tap into the right tools and understand what’s right for you and your professional future.
it’s not over yet: we will give you a piece of BASE to organise, manage and do…
we’ll figure it out.
FAIRNESS DIVERSITY AND EQUALITY
BASE works every day so that all people can feel at home, regardless of cultural background, colour, nationality, gender identity, status or civil union, disability, sexual orientation, religious belief, political conviction, age, social class.
