Inside We Will Design, the design week at BASE Milano from 6 to 12 June, CasaBASE – the guesthouse of BASE -becomes Temporary Home and turns into a residence sui generis for five young designers from France, Germany, England and Holland, invited to reflect, in particular, on the issue of the circular economy.
Five rooms will thus offer a vision of 5 avant-garde scenarios, becoming for a week at the same time home and place of experimentation of designers who will develop here expose and tell their residences to the public. Throughout the week of the Design Week the rooms – ateliers will be open to the public, who will observe the work processes and dialogue with the community.

DESIGNERS AND THEIR RESIDENCIES
Rebecca Schedler | Symbiopunk
Rebecca Schedler is a German designer and researcher who investigates the complex relationships between social, cultural, political and environmental issues by exploring the relationship between design and science. In collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Mailand presents Symbiopunk, a two-burner and composting system that converts human feces into fertile hummus, showing how human waste can become valuable not only for cultivation, but also for the life cycle in general.
Joppe Broers | Proposal for a Prevailing World-Vol I
Joppe Broers, Dutch designer, with his experience proposes a mapping of all the species extinct due to the rapid urbanization since 1800. He wonders what volume they would occupy if one of these species were cremated and all the ashes were put together. The project presents a package of real animal ash, a symbolic representation of urban development, creating a simultaneous ode to the prevailing humans on Earth and a memorial for the lost inhabitants.
Goliath Dyèvre | The Big Assembly
Goliath Dyèvre, in collaboration with Institut français Paris and Institut français Milano, questions the very nature of innovation through the transformation of the materials present in our daily lives. Linked together these materials, from the most harmless to the most complex, become in turn unique objects produced in functional or sculptural pieces. Some are sublimated by the assembly, others see themselves equipped with a new function.
Nicholas Rapagnani | The Growing Sneakers
Nicholas Rapagnani, in collaboration with the Fast Lab laboratories of the Free University of Bolzano and the brand Salewa (Oberalp group), reflects on the life cycle of sneakers to find more sustainable solutions through the “growing materials” (materials that grow). The focus of the project is based on laboratory testing of mycelium-based organic materials, as a response to the current mass production of sneakers. His dream was to become a footwear designer, now he is a sneakers scientist.
Eleni Michael and Kaajal Modi | ‘Intercultural’ design: multispecies collaborations in the kitchen
In collaboration with the British Council
Food anthropologist Eleni Michael and multidisciplinary designer Kaajal Modi invite us to explore circular food cultures in the kitchen: their knowledge of fermentation is applied to transform food waste from the kitchens at casaBASE. In doing so, they invite visitors to explore fermentation as a practice of ‘intercultural’ exchange as they move through the installation.
