#REWRITINGBASE — Mathilde Pergher

A generative visual identity project developed for BASE Milano, grounded in the participatory collection of the word “BASE” handwritten by visitors and members of the cultural centre.

The project experiments with repositioning the role of the designer — shifting it from defining a formal outcome to building a system: establishing rules, formats, and compositions, while leaving the production of the visual sign to the community itself. An open participatory process for those who move through the space, rooted in the lived experience of the people who inhabit it every day. Each handwritten contribution becomes the trace of a unique presence, worthy of being made visible and woven into a broader collective expression. A cultural space truly becomes such only when its character, meaning, and direction are shaped by the community that inhabits it daily.

Mathilde Pergher is a digital and graphic designer based in Milan. Over the past five years, she has worked with both local and international agencies and is now embarking on a freelance path.
