Dance, voice and music become instruments for restoring presence to those who have been erased.

Starting from the figure of Tituba — the Black woman accused of witchcraft in the Salem trials and protagonist of Maryse Condé’s novel — Dorothée Munyaneza constructs a solo that moves through memory, body and history. Dance, voice and music become instruments for restoring presence to those who have been erased, reduced to silence or excluded from official narratives, exploring the traces left by slavery and colonialism. The body transforms into a living archive, where past and present meet in a gesture of memory, repair and resistance.

Bio

Dorothée Munyaneza is a multidisciplinary artist working with music, song, text and movement to create spaces of resonance and hope. Drawing from the diversity of her cultural heritage — a childhood in Rwanda, fourteen years in London, Paris and then Marseille — her creations celebrate the voices of those who are silenced, revealing the scars of history. She is associate artist at the Maison de la Danse in Lyon and in 2024 received the Salavisa European Award.
