Ephemeral Gardens is a video essay that explores and challenges the human need for control over vegetation, through the analysis of Japanese gardens and abandoned urban green areas in Kyoto. By alternating footage from maintained gardens and neglected urban vegetation, the project questions the unseen relationship between humans and green spaces.

It is an invitation to recognize the abyss — political, ecological, aesthetic — we’re living in, not as a place of fear, but as a space of regeneration, resistance, and imagination. Darkness here is not absence, but a fertile condition that embraces invisible gestures, marginalized knowledge, and luminous forms of resistance.
