Carlota Gallo — Antropocore

by Redazione

Antropocore is a speculative manifesto for designing in the ruins of the Anthropocene, where human histories and planetary futures are entangled in a dance of ecological precarity.

This critical design project transforms everyday objects into material witnesses of a world in flux, insisting that aesthetics and function cannot escape their embedding in collapsing ecosystems. It is a call to stay with the trouble—to imagine and craft within the messy entanglements of the Earth’s transformations.

Born out of the collision of ‘Antropocene’ and ‘Core’ (the fleeting, hyper-specific aesthetics of contemporary culture), Antropocore disrupts the design paradigms that have dominated modernity. Instead of celebrating form divorced from consequence, he dives headlong into the filth of socio-political and ecological crisis, emerging with a speculative catalogue of materials and objects that embody the scars, resilience and tensions of our time. These are objects as relatives: vibrant, relational and imbued with the ethics of care.

Each artefact in the collection whispers a story of ecological responsibility, recasting waste, pollution and degradation as sites of creative possibility. With their layered textures and fragmented forms, these designs speak not only of human ingenuity, but also of the deep interdependencies that bind us to soil, air, water and non-human worlds. This is not design for the Anthropocene, but design with the Anthropocene: a refusal to look away from the planetary consequences of extraction and consumption.

Through speculative materials and moulded forms, the project re-imagines the banal as a place of kinship. What does it mean to build a chair that mourns a dying forest? A lamp that glows with the embodied energy of the petrochemicals it criticises? These objects challenge the division between beauty and responsibility, pushing designers to think not only about creation, but also about repair, reciprocity and rebirth.

So... is this getting serious?
