soon at BASE, Matilde Cassani’s installation and the Festival Architettura, in collaboration with DOPO?
In the first half of April, art, design and architecture return to contaminate each other and become tools to support the right to the city, with the first edition of Performing Architecture, a diffuse festival created by BASE Milano and DOPO?, a space for cultural work and shared recreation in Milan’s Corvetto neighborhood.
The project is among the winners of Festival Architettura – Edition 3, an initiative that activates the entire national territory, promoted by the General Directorate of Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture.
The event will be anticipated on March 13, 2025 by a Symposium, which will be held at BASE Milan.
From April 1 to 13, 2025, through the creation of territorial cultural garrisons and the dissemination of architectural and performative practices, the festival aims to stimulate the creation of new imaginaries in which the city is transformed through the bodies that inhabit it and to activate new dynamics of coexistence and sociality in the suburbs of South Milan.
Performing Architecture is thus an itinerary that will reach five areas of Milan:
Tortona – The Ground Hall of BASE becomes a soft space of sharing and conviviality, a place to “stay,” thanks to the installation Weekend Week by Matilde Cassani Studio. The project is the result of a reflection on the “hidden” places of Milan, a challenge, a search for a dimension of suspension and well-being to be inhabited during the “Milanese week”.
Corvetto – the cultural center DOPO? is transformed into a natural oasis, a refuge from the metropolitan frenzy, thanks to the spatial and sound interventions of the artist Caterina Gobbi, and the reflections proposed by the research project Altrove.
Barona – in the physical space of imagination and participation by Barrios, which with the collaboration of Studio Latte will look at the theme of the acoustic justice, from the perspective of the new generations.
Stadera – Fantastudio, in dialogue with Sara Ricciardi Studio will work on the theme of the body, intercepting the discourse of care and that of feminism.
Chiaravalle – in the nomadic architecture of Terzo Paesaggio, in which the duo of architects Lemonot and the performer Alberonero will build a performative device from a reflection on the relationship between climate and food.
And that’s not all: the Festival’s network of neighborhoods opens up to the international dimension, thanks to the collaboration with Concéntrico, the urban innovation laboratory established as the International Festival of Architecture and Design of Logroño (Spain), the artistic and social research center ZK/U Berlin and the publishing and curating studio DPR Barcelona.
