FAROUT Live Arts Festival Marta Bellu — I versi delle mani

dance
performance

Do you see it? We are one nature: we are born sightless from the breath of the wind, we find ourselves in the space traversed by sound, in the verses of hands, in the gesture that animates the energy of joy, and in the fire that sweeps us with song.

The work explores the simultaneous creation of a musical and choreographic score that originates from breath and is traced in space through words and hands—vessels of sensitivity expressed in gestures of body and sound. “The Verses of the Hands” (I versi delle mani) is the title that emerged from the dialogue between the artistic research and the unique expressive inspirations of Laura Lucioli, a dancer with Down syndrome. As Laura explains: “The verses of the hands are truly my verses, the hands with fingers that speak. Each gesture has a symbol, like a language. For example, when I use words and sound to speak. I call myself Laura, or I become a flower… My hair is tied with her voice. I like how the sound connects one to the other. We are similar. Sound is a key to beauty, opening a door.”

This performance was born from the encounter between choreographer Marta Bellu, musician Agnese Banti, and Laura Lucioli. This marks Laura’s first professional work, which began in 2015 within the Iniziali project, where she studied contemporary dance and choreographic research with Marta Bellu. Agnese Banti, a sound artist, musician, and performer, is interested in the dialogue between bodily gestures, the physicality of sound, and its relationship with space. In this project, it is her first encounter with choreography and with Marta Bellu, who explores the language of dance in relation to musical composition.

Bio

Marta Bellu choreographer, dancer and psychologist, she is interested in awareness and expression practices involving the mind-body system in an artistic, ecological and social sense. Her choreographic research, in dialogue with musical composition, explores the relationship between body, sound, light, environment and landscape.

Since 2019 she has been an associate artist of Versiliadanza and in 2021 she is one of the founders of A Corpo Vivo, based in Cagliari, with which she realises projects and workshops that interweave ecology and artistic practice.
