ROOM 03. Saúl Baeza and Manuela Valtchanova — A Dream House

We are all part of a continuous battle over perception. And imagining is resisting.

Saúl Baeza and Manuela Valtchanova — A Dream House

A Dream House is a collective gaming installation in which participants build a digital home in The Sims to challenge, through imagination, the invisible spaces of power.

Today, conflicts are fought not only on military battlefields but also on the terrain of perception. Power increasingly operates through images—which do not merely represent reality but actively construct it, defining their own regimes of truth.

In A Dream House, gaming becomes an intrusive tactic in the “war of images.” Starting from the premise that darkness is an absence of images, each room stages everyday gestures, narratives, and objects that symbolically embody geopolitical power, transforming a domestic simulation into a critical tool.

The installation engages participants in a collective act of reclaiming image production. It proposes imagining—and thus making visible—what systematically remains unseen: the daily domestic spaces of those who lead and benefit from the primary power structures sustaining contemporary society. It is an attempt to produce images of the environments where the desires of power are staged, normalized, and subsequently projected onto the world.

The house is divided into seven digital rooms, each corresponding to a specific sphere of contemporary influence and symbolically associated with a figure who embodies it. What emerges is a domestic landscape that is both voyeuristic and critical, where daily life becomes inseparable from geopolitical power.

Imagination thus asserts itself as soft power against domination: a collective practice of producing counter-images in a world where the struggle for reality is increasingly played out through what can—and cannot—be seen.
