Ritual III – WHISPER is the latest chapter in Alos’s long-term multidisciplinary project, following Ritual I – The Chaos Awakening (2011) and Ritual II – Embrace the Darkness (2022). Centered on the ritual power of the word not as logos but as whisper, breath, and body connected to the wild, WHISPER is inspired by the legend of Saint Julius, who banished snakes from his island using only his voice. Here, voice becomes an intimate force of liberation.
The work took shape during a residency at CROSS Project (Sacro Monte di Orta, Italy), where the natural and spiritual landscape deeply informed the process. For the first time, Alos opens the creative practice to public participation, involving teenagers in a workshop of vocal experimentation, emotional expression, and collective sonic creation.
The work is rooted in sound art, feminist performance, and ritual practice. It addresses themes such as voice as liberation, adolescence as transformation, and the monster as metaphor for the non-normative self. WHISPER shifts attention from dominance and clarity to ambiguity, breath, and vulnerability.
The process includes improvisational games, field recordings, vocal warm-ups (inspired by the Fussi Method), and listening exercises. The result is not a conventional show but a collective sonic ritual that celebrates transformation, vulnerability, and shared experience.
