Matilde Cassani Studio Another Week – the art installation by Matilde Cassani Studio at BASE

An installation by visual artist Matilde Cassani serves as a counterpoint to the frenzy of Milan's "weeks." It is a place that changes shape thanks to the movements of the visitors who pass through it, the traces they leave behind, and the forts they build.

Milan hosts countless events, so many that every week in the city has become a “week.” Milan is also a private city where empty spaces are hidden behind gates. For those who don’t live in the city centers, for the “non-locals,” it is difficult to find a place to be.

In this sense, the “weeks” are moments when the city reveals itself, showcasing hidden places and new identities: courtyards open up, gardens are revealed, squares become crowded, and people create the city.

Another Week, the installation by visual artist Matilde Cassani, hosted in the Ground Hall of BASE, participates in these moments of sharing and creates new spatialities, new forms of conviviality, acting as a bridge between Art Week and Design Week.

In the Ground Hall at BASE, a dimension of suspension and the search for well-being unfolds. Long PVC carpets overlap and flood the floor, as if waiting for some ritual to be performed on them (or simply for someone to take a moment to stretch). The same happens on the ceiling.

The result is a mutable environment, a place that changes shape thanks to the movements of the visitors who pass through it, the traces they leave behind, the forts they build, and the rearranging of the carpets.

Another Week draws from the aesthetics of school gymnasiums, where we all spent moments of togetherness and carefree joy. It is a space characterized by softness and flexibility that invites one to lean, stretch, run, and jump, but most of all, to get comfortable and – finally – stop during weeks when no one seems to slow down.

The installation will be inaugurated on April 6 at 6:30 PM with a performative activation by performer and choreographer Martina Rota, who will present – for the second time at BASE Milano – an excerpt from With All My Strength, a performance revolving around reflections on hyper-performance and the hypertrophy of bodies.
