Rather than a repository of the essences of some imagined people we are said to be, all folklore carries something of Frankenstein: theft, blending, and assimilation, embodying memories of other times.
With this monstrous spelling, the forms of flamenco expression are rearranged, between whim and study, creating an archive of dances and deceptive stories that trace a map of clues stitching together a fragmented identity.
We aim to craft a popular grammar ready for play – rigorous play – traveling from the village to the city, from the museum to the tablao, from the trade to the passion, from the market to the runway, from the studio to the party…
Bio
Laila Tafur Santamaría (Granada, 1984) is an Andalusian dancer and choreographer. Trained between Reykjavik, Lisbon, and Barcelona, she has developed a research practice that intertwines dance, singing, critical thought, and humor. Her works have been presented in festivals and theatres such as Mercat de les Flors, Sismograf, Surge Madrid, and Mes de Danza, earning awards including Best Dancer at the Maspalomas and Madrid Choreographic Contests.
She has collaborated with artists such as Janet Novás, Xavier Le Roy, and Jérôme Bel. Today, she combines her creative activity with teaching at the Conservatorio Superior in Málaga.
Rafael Sánchez-Mateos Paniagua (Madrid, 1979) è docente, ricercatore e artista. Dottore in Estetica, ha insegnato alla Facoltà di Architettura della UPSAM, alla Facoltà di Belle Arti della UCM, alla Fundación Ortega y Gasset-Gregorio Marañón di Toledo e all’Università di Princeton, dove ha lavorato due anni come professore ospite nel campo dei Modern Peninsular Studies. È docente nel master di Enseñanzas Artísticas, Pensamiento y Creación Escénica Contemporánea (FUESCYL, Valladolid) e nel Máster en Artes y Profesiones Artísticas (Sur Escuela, Círculo de BBAA, Madrid). Ha fondato diversi collettivi artistici e ha presentato il suo lavoro multidisciplinare in istituzioni nazionali e internazionali. È consulente artistico per istituzioni come La Madraza o la compagnia di danza La Phármaco. Le sue ricerche si concentrano sull’arte e gli immaginari popolari, sull’esperienza estetica e sulla dimensione sociale dell’arte.
