Design Week We Will Design 2025: Making Kin

WE WILL DESIGN

Building meaningful relationships between humans, non-humans, and more-than-humans. The 2025 Design Week at BASE is Making Kin: from April 7 to 13, BASE opens its doors to a temporary community of designers, architects, and artists to weave new kinships.

The projects featured in Design Week 2025 rethink interpersonal relationships beyond traditional ties, proposing new forms of kinship—bonds, connections—based on conscious choices and shared affinities, through:

Exhibit: projects by academies and emerging designers

Temporary Home: five projects by designers-in-residence

A large-scale site-specific installation by Matilde Cassani

But also parties, talks, dialogues, and cross-pollinations.

The goal? To build intergenerational and intersectional alliances that challenge hierarchies and oppression, fostering creative acts of resistance. Moving beyond the logic of purely biological kinship to embrace care and the recognition of differences, creating spaces for chosen bonds and co-creation.

Bio

Design helps us interpret the present and shape the future. We Will Design is a year-round journey of residencies and international exchanges, where design practices and experiences become tools to read—and sometimes solve—the contradictions of our time.

So... is this getting serious?
