“Umide Divinazioni” is an installation which explores the borders between science and magic. It engages people to train gazes and gesturality to explore the micro-world of our bodies in a context in which there aren’t neat limits between protocol and ritual.
The objective is to re-think about science as a powerful tool capable of building imaginaries and languages which is able to recognize our interindipendence and to transform our comprehension of reality.
During the 30 minute session the partecipants are invited to take part in a practise of dacrimanzia (from ancient greek: δάκρυ – dákru, “tear drop”), divinatory art which reads, studies and interprets the shapes generated from the crystallization of tears. This form of art probably started diffusing in Europe during the seventeenth century, following the introduction of the microscope.
Divinatory rituals present analogies with scientific protocols, especially with their processes, ministers, must-do formulas, purifying fires, active principles and when people involved become more and more specialized, incapable of sharing and being comprehended.
OBOT plays with this contradiction, it explores the limits, contaminates the “modest testimony” of science with immodest glances to open a new dialogue, causing debate bewteen disciplines and demolishing some of its highest walls.
