Technospoonism<\/strong> is a speculative design project exploring how the rituals of eating might evolve in a technologically mediated future marked by the climate crisis. Inspired by kamayan<\/em><\/strong>\u2014the traditional Filipino practice of eating with one’s hands in a communal setting\u2014the project reflects on how cultural gestures can transform without losing their identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The work proposes a series of silver jewelry-cutlery<\/strong>, designed to be worn on the fingers and wrists as extensions of the hand. These are neither simple utensils nor traditional jewelry, but hybrid artifacts: part ornament, part prosthesis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conceived as speculative heirlooms<\/strong>, these forms develop around three primary references: the traditional symbols of batok<\/em><\/strong> tattooing, organic morphology, and industrial utility. They represent an intersection of nature, culture, and technology. In a future scenario shaped by climate change, the food consumed with this jewelry-cutlery consists of dried, cured, and fermented dishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The choice of silver<\/strong> is both functional and symbolic, as it is a material of value that is also highly durable. Accompanying the pieces is a short speculative film: shot in a minimalist and ambiguous environment\u2014part natural, part domestic\u2014the film depicts a group of individuals participating in a reinterpreted kamayan<\/em> ritual. The communal meal is thus redefined through evolved tools and ritualized gestures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through jewelry that nourishes and cutlery that adorns, Technospoonism<\/em> transforms the act of eating with one\u2019s hands into a new kinetic choreography<\/strong>. The project imagines a future where traditions are not preserved by resisting change, but by adapting rituals, tools, and movements to move through it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We Will Design 2026 \u2014 HELLO, DARKNESS<\/strong> embraces design as a tool for subverting hierarchies and weaving together ecologies and technologies to imagine the cities and societies of the future.
It is an invitation to recognize the abyss \u2014 political, ecological, aesthetic \u2014 we’re living in, not as a place of fear, but as a space of regeneration, resistance, and imagination.
