It means resisting the logic of isolation, the culture of the enemy, the construction of the \u201cother\u201d as threat. It means reactivating possibilities for care, reciprocity, and alliance\u2014against the grain of separation and hierarchy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1b57bf02aa8d9a6fd8c52dc572c43afb\" style=\"color:#303030;font-size:24px;font-style:normal;font-weight:400;letter-spacing:-0.3px\"><strong>Staying with the pain<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-13046d76efa7f2f8ce541090447a63e8\" style=\"color:#3c3c3b;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:-0.15px\">We don\u2019t wish to speak of kinship in naive or romantic terms. Pain, anger, loss, structural violence\u2014these cannot be bypassed. <em>Making kin<\/em> is not an idyllic dream of harmony. It is\u2014following Donna Haraway\u2014a situated, \u201ctentacular\u201d practice that does not avoid conflict but passes through it. Kinship can be formed through friction, through limits and fractures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6c8301f8ba05d1357196b6490abce0cc\" style=\"color:#303030;font-size:24px;font-style:normal;font-weight:400;letter-spacing:-0.3px\"><strong>Kin as alliances between vulnerabilities<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7c3e498b8a192f599a05e71cc3c7a403\" style=\"color:#3c3c3b;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:-0.15px\">In times of dehumanization, making kin can mean forging alliances among those who have been stripped of their humanity: between humans and non-humans, between racialized bodies, migrants, queer, poor, extinct or soon-to-be-extinct lives. These alliances are not built on similarity or identity, but on the shared terrain of risk and vulnerability.<br>Bayo Akomolafe reminds us that \u201cthe world is not something to be solved, but something to dance with.\u201d His philosophy encourages us to recognize vulnerability as a space of connection and transformation\u2014where wounds become meeting points rather than lines of separation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ab1666201de8e6e3e83435b64f86274b\" style=\"color:#303030;font-size:24px;font-style:normal;font-weight:400;letter-spacing:-0.3px\"><strong>Recognizing the kin that already exist<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-62c916fbe47f65acb3676be4350ad9ca\" style=\"color:#3c3c3b;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:-0.15px\">Even amid collapse, connections endure. The question is not only <em>how<\/em> to make kin, but <em>with whom<\/em> are we already in kinship, unknowingly? Who are we already touching, encountering, being shaped by? Making kin is also an act of recognition\u2014an interruption of the loneliness and marginality that pervade our times.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-18bf98b1d268e538e9cbd03115e8b5b0\" style=\"color:#303030;font-size:24px;font-style:normal;font-weight:400;letter-spacing:-0.3px\"><strong>Making kin as radical imagination<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1aee42a00db473aef41fabf07e1d5525\" style=\"color:#3c3c3b;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:-0.15px\">In an age of new colonialisms\u2014economic, extractive, digital\u2014making kin also means imagining other worlds: other ways of dwelling, of being together, of generating value not based on growth, profit, or domination. It is a speculative, poetic, utopian act\u2014in the most concrete sense: inventing livable practices for unlivable times.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b1fd0c4c65c8ef3275883b0276348ef1\" style=\"color:#303030;font-size:24px;font-style:normal;font-weight:400;letter-spacing:-0.3px\"><strong>Accepting that not everyone wants to make kin<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d2f29820f01c0c7e0d57b5cd61a019e7\" style=\"color:#3c3c3b;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:-0.15px\">Alliance cannot be a moral imperative. We must also leave room for withdrawal, protection, and silence. Making kin must never be an obligation. It is always a situated choice\u2014and often a painful one.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-523ae18ff7519b0b3b4fb90cc829fa25\" style=\"color:#303030;font-size:24px;font-style:normal;font-weight:400;letter-spacing:-0.3px\"><strong>The role of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/base.milano.it\/en\/series\/farout-2025\/\">festival<\/a><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-50f2ac876060fcb2bf5ba090c7890f09\" style=\"color:#3c3c3b;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:-0.15px\">The performing arts have a unique capacity to render relationships visible and tangible\u2014to create spaces where kinship is not just represented, but enacted, inhabited, embodied. In times of separation and dehumanization, the performing body\u2014vulnerable, affective, present\u2014can become a territory of alliance. A space where new forms of coexistence can be imagined and tested.<br>Performance unsettles hierarchies: between spectator and performer, human and non-human, self and other. It opens cracks through which unfamiliar forms of kinship may take root.<br><br>Through somatic practices, relational choreographies, immersive devices and site-specific actions, the performing arts become laboratories of co-presence\u2014spaces where we can remain in conflict without resolving it, stay with complexity without simplifying it. They are tools to make the invisible visible, to listen to what has been silenced, to build communities that are ephemeral yet deeply meaningful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-921d758e230a3d656f29c900684f16eb\" style=\"color:#3c3c3b;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:-0.15px\">In this sense, the performing arts don\u2019t just represent change: they provoke it, rehearse it, embody it. They become spaces where kinship is possible\u2014even if only for a moment.
