At the heart of Japanese aesthetics, where light and shadow interact with natural materials, lies an experience that blends design, craftsmanship, and Zen philosophy. Omnicent Japan, a collective formed by the artist-in-residence initiative Omnicent, metal manufacturer Noridomi Iron Works, and tatami weaver Ikehiko, presents an installation that recreates the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese tea house. This is a space where time and space dissolve in a sensory interaction of sound, imagery, and fragrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Multisensory Experience of Aesthetics and Craftsmanship<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The project unfolds within a space embodying the core principles of Japanese aesthetics. With a minimalist structure based on lines and grids, light and shadow become design elements, while natural materials reflect the animistic worldview of Shinto. The concept of “ma,” the meaningful empty space, guides the visitor\u2019s perception, inviting them into a contemplative dimension.

Yet, the installation goes beyond visual perception. Every detail contributes to a complete sensory journey: the scent of igusa, the plant used to weave tatami mats, blends with the aromas of plants, while projected images and the sound of traditional instruments transport visitors to the Japanese countryside. Live demonstrations of tea ceremonies and Ikebana floral compositions enhance the interaction between space and audience, offering an authentic taste of a culture deeply rooted in nature and the cyclical passage of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Omnicent Japan is not just an artistic installation but a bridge between past and future, tradition and innovation. Established as an artist residency in the Japanese countryside, Omnicent fosters encounters between international artists and local artisans, encouraging the transfer of knowledge and centuries-old techniques. This installation, created in collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Fotografia and Campsirago Residenza, aims to convey this philosophy, providing a space for reflection and connection between East and West, memory and experimentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond being an immersive artwork, the project also features an exhibition area with informational materials, videos, and sample products from the participating companies. It is a unique opportunity for those interested in deepening the dialogue with Omnicent Japan and exploring new possibilities for collaboration at the intersection of art, design, and craftsmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
