A change of perspective from “We” to “They”, a space where young people take power to explore and expose their idea of the future.
As part of the wider framework of “We Will Design“, the BASE Design Week to be held from 6 to 12 June, BASE presents a special project dedicated to the new generations, carried out with the support of the Embassy and the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Italy: “They Will Design“, where from WE attention is shifted to THEY, the youngest, to those who tomorrow will have the responsibility of designing the future. They are given the challenge of imagining FANTASTIC INSTITUTIONS, which modify or subvert existing ones.
Inclusion, Digitalization, Women’s Empowerment and Environmental Sustainability are just some of the issues on which the participants are called to reflect.
They Will Design involves 20 students between 18 and 26 years from Italian and international universities, academies and training places. During the project implementation phases the working groups are supported by PARASITE 2.0 – an architectural collective founded in 2010 by Stefano Colombo, Eugenio Cosentino and Luca Marullo who investigates the status of urban habitat. The challenge of each group is to produce a manifesto of a new FANTASTIC INSTITUTION, a concept presented at BASE during Design Week 2022.

They Will Design is a project realized with the support of the Embassy and the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Italy.
During We Will Design the installations of the Fantastic Institutions, designed during the path of They Will Design, will be visited in the Exhibit part of the Design Week at Base.
The four new and imaginary Institutions are characterized by five different items: a flag, a poster, a uniform, an object that represents the power of the institution and a permormative speech in which you can participate throughout the week of Design Week.
Each working group starts from a critical analysis of contemporary society, proposing Fantastic Institutions with its own mission, its own way of seeing and relating to the world and a different growth project to try to build a better future.
