We are a multidisciplinary research centre in the performing, visual and design arts.

With an annual programme we offer listening, space and resources to emerging generations of artists, with a focus on queer, racialised and disabled communities, providing a protected space for research and production.

Highlights

We are committed to building long-term collaborations, involving the artists-in-residence in the co-design of the public programme and the main productions, and engaging with them in an open and real dialogue with all members of the communities, exploring ideas and approaches on how to address contemporary issues by disrupting conventions and beliefs.

Game rules

  1. EXPERIMENTAL LAB

We give space to process: a free hand to error, allowing the artists to try and test, think and produce, create and share. We establish long-term relationships with artists and work with them to experiment with new ideas, at the intersection of performance art and design, photography and dance, public art and music.

  2. ENGINE OF CHANGE

Rethinking the contemporary through artistic languages: our residency programme makes bodies, identities, cultures and unforeseen natures visible, fitting into BASE’s broader framework of reflection that sees us committed to mitigating forms of racialisation and cultural colonialism, ableism and gender discrimination.

  3. URBAN ATELIER

Imagining new forms of living is not only a task for architecture: we support emerging local artists and challenge them to immerse themselves in the city, to break rules and boundaries, to reconfigure spaces and human relations, to bring art and the public dimension into dialogue through artistic languages.

  4. CARE IS POLITICS

We provide technical support, mentoring and economic recourses, guaranteeing a space for research and production, fostering the connection between the artistic community and the local context, offering a dedicated, protected and comfortable work space and hospitality.

ASSOCIATED ARTISTS

Co-curatorial and mentoring paths for emerging artists, residency openings and workshops dedicated to the community: the associated artists are collaborators, accomplices, allies of BASE’s artistic production and projects in the territories.
Elisabetta Consonni artista associata a BASE Milano

ELISABETTA CONSONNI

She choreographs everything: human and inhuman beings, moving and motionless objects, maps, interstices and spatial holiday groups. She weaves networks of relationships, subtle and strong, like sugar glass. Her stage is the public space: the practice of choreography is for her a tool to trigger a social discourse and weave relationships with marginalised groups.

CORPS CITOYEN

CORPS CITOYEN الجسد المواطن is a multidisciplinary artistic collective based between Tunis and Milan funded by Italian and Tunisian artists. The collective’s artistic practice crosses performance, theatre, social and anthropological research, video-documentary, animation and writing to create new narratives of the present and investigate the complexity of the contemporary.

MOMBAO

A duo of musicians and performers, their music mixes unreleased songs in different languages with folk songs from different cultures in an electronic rock key. Halfway between a performance and a concert, Mombao involve the audience in a liberating dance, a mystical ritual in a modern key.
