THE ABCS OF DEATH
THURSDAY JUNE 21
Twenty-six directors. Twenty-six ways to die.
THE ABCs OF DEATH opens BASE’s film line-up exploring modern fears. The film takes its inspiration from children’s books to create a series of chapters, with each director taking a letter of the alphabet as a starting point from which to weave their story. Each tale has one thing in common: death.
Director: Jennifer Kent

«If it’s in a word
Or it’s in a look
You can’t get rid of the Babadook»

THURSDAY JULY 5
Or how to exorcise fear of vampires.
Part mockumentary, part reality show with a horror twist. A troupe of documentary film makers follows the lives of 4 vampires sharing an apartment in a suburb of Wellington, New Zealand. The camera follows these thousand-year old creatures around as they venture out under cover of darkness, in search of blood, and as they take shelter from the daylight in their apartment where they lead a suburban existence, awkward and incapable of finding a place in the 21st century world beyond their front door.
THE NEON DEMON
Director: Nicolas Winding
THURSDAY JULY 12
«Horror has the power to reveal the absurdity within us, our worst fears, but also the beauty of being human»
A triumph of plastic, mirrors, embalmed animals, blood and neon. As part of our FILMS OF FEAR line-up, BASE offers you a visual investigation into the FEAR OF THE BODY: obsession with beauty, body dysmorphia and meta-carnal uneasiness in the fashion world, objectified and cannibalised human bodies, moving like robots through artificially constructed environments. It may not be scary, but it is certainly chilling.
Directors: Veronika Franza and Severin Fiala
THURSDAY JULY 19
Exploring the fear of losing identity.
Two cute blond twins, a house in the woods, and plastic surgery that permanently changes their mother’s features. This is the premise of a psychoanalytical horror film investigating one of our deepest fears: what happens if the person singing our lullaby is no longer the same?
