Also for this edition of We Will Design, the Design Week at BASE Milano from June 6th to 12th, the first floor of BASE hosts Exhibit, a large exhibition that collects the works of Italian and international universities, multidisciplinary collectives, designers and young talents becoming a place of research and experimentation with a focus on new perspectives of design. A great research platform that brings together projects and installations to reflect on new ways of learning in relation to the challenges of our time.
Analogique & Abadir | W.E.L. (L)! – Work, Enjoy, Live, Love – Four coordinates of human existence
In collaboration with the Abadir Academy of Design and Visual Arts, the project W.E.L.(L)! is proposed as a container of topics, events and possible actions to rethink the spheres of our life in function of four coordinates that embrace the entire course of our lives.
Adarsh Nellore | THANATOS e Machine Anthropometry
During the Design Week the media artist and interaction designer Adarsh Nellore presents two projects dedicated to the intersection of digital media, technology and sculpture. This project aims to reflect on the relationship between human evolution and the evolution of non-human intelligence.
Anna Baldocchi | Malerba
Malerba is presented as a “human atlas” in the form of a documentary that traces the linguistic boundaries and cultural divisions of Italy, starting from Sicily. Moving around the Italian island, Anna Baldocchi mapped the main differences in the sound of the Sicilian dialect through the encounter with the locals who shared their routines and daily stories.
Bolaero | Bolaero 0.1
Bolaero presents its first collection designed by Tommaso Mirabella Roberti, proposing a line of lightweight, flexible and sustainable furniture, consisting of individual inflatable parts that can be assembled in different configurations adapting to the needs of the user and a constantly changing environment.
FestivalDivercity | NEST – il nido degli incivili
In collaboration with PLUS+ studio.
In this project-installation, Andi Nganso and Maurizio Talanti condemn the systemic aggression against the rights and health of immigrants, also perpetrated through design (or its absence). A plural and multidisciplinary dialogue, participated also by: Sara Prestianni, BAMILEKE, and the designer Abreham Brioschi.
Edern Janneau | Sound of touches
Through a series of small instruments amplified by synthesizers, the designer and artist Edern Janneau creates an orchestra that combines together the different potentialities of natural and digital sounds, in relation to the environment that surrounds them. He combines technology and poetry, using bright colors to communicate concrete meanings.
Hi Kyung Eun | Panta Rhei
The project explores some concepts of the Korean cultural tradition in relation to the macramé technique, giving new life to waste materials, such as ceramics purchased in a thrift store. Once the wick is lit, the pot evolves in different stages over time.
Studio Formosa | Supernatural Collection
Supernatural Collection consists of a series of candlesticks characterized by a nature halfway between physical and digital. The shape of the artifacts, created by a generative algorithm that simulates the growth model of natural elements such as corals and roots, is materialized through a 3D printing technique. Each physical piece is associated with a digital certificate registered on blockchain (NFT) that guarantees the uniqueness and authenticity of the object.
Francesca Tambussi | Hyperburgers
Francesca Tambussi is a Italian social designer based in the Netherlands. Her project Hyperburgers is an “inconvenience store”, an innovative supermarket entirely managed by consumers, where to be able to take you have to give something in return in a non-monetary form, whether it is food, time or packaging.
Giulio Bordonaro e Nicoletta Gomboli | Games We’ll Never Play
The two italian designers created a playroom in the age of artificial intelligence. A series of interactive installations illustrate how some games recalibrated in the hyper-technological context could become aberrant, boring or frustrating.
Matthieu Henry | Human Mould
The project, through the use of the chair, reflects on the relationship between object, creator and user. In this research, the process of realization acquires a new meaning as the construction of objects becomes performative where the human body serves as a mold.

Plastic Landscape (first floor, in the exhibit area) is a tactical device that talks about recycling and invites us to think about new uses of spaces. Micromegàsuoni (courtyard) is a site-specific installation that establishes a dialogue between the urban and natural landscapes, produced by NAM-Not A Museum, the contemporary art programme from Manifattura Tabacchi as part of the first edition of the SUPERBLAST artistic residency.
Johanna Reymann | Left Behind
Left Behind proposes a reflection on the amount of waste generated by the production processes of simple objects, such as Dutch clogs.
Kim van den Belt | Kaia ⎯ 4F.STUDIO | The Lighthouse
New sustainable CO2 filters made with algae, more specifically diatoms: Kaia absorbs CO2 and returns oxygen through photosynthesis.
Together with Joshua Kelly in the collective 4F.STUDIO, Kim van den Belt presents The Lighthouse: an innovative cyanobacterial reactor in the guise of a lighthouse.
NID ⎯ Nuovo Istituto di Design Perugia | Deruta Revolution
A project curated by the student of the course Product Design led by Sara Ricciardi, founds its roots in the Umbrian territory and proposes a review of the Alberello, a container used in the past to store spices and medicines in ancient pharmacies.

This project is realized by studio.traccia with ActionAid Italia, in the framework of the Food Wave project led by the Milano City Council.

In The Paradoxical Screen, designer Valentine Maurice analyzes insomnia as a social and contemporary phenomenon from the perspective of Gen Z.
The installation proposes to experiment with the relationship between memory and sleep: the idea is to create a dreamlike utopian space, based on the methodology of “Unlearning”, to help the viewer fall asleep.
Simon Dogger & Boey Wang ⎯ Design Beyond Vision – Shifting Design from exclusive to inclusive.
Design Beyond Vision is a collaboration between two young designers, blind designer Simon Dogger and designer Boey Wang. Visitors to this space live an interactive experience aimed at promoting a diversified way of thinking about design, from a perspective that is not exclusively visual.
In an inviting and engaging way, Dogger and Wang direct the attention and interest of the spectators towards their responsibility for creating more inclusive societies.
Design Beyond Vision offers the opportunity to experiment with a different approach to design, also using other senses such as touch, smell and so on. Through this different methodology, design becomes instinctive, intuitive and empathetic.
