A dip into Italian pop culture, with an invigorating programme offering a non-stop line-up of music nights, open-air cinema and street food.
Just a stone’s throw away from the Navigli, immersed in the industrial atmosphere of the ex-Ansaldo complex, comes a new Milan summer institution: BASE SUMMER FACTORY, the summer programme at BASE Milano.
Holidays in Milan. The factory city that shuts down for the summer is a distant memory. The global, post-industrial city of Milan is buzzing even in July and August, visited by thousands of tourists from all over the world and populated by millions of Milan inhabitants who decide to stick around. BASE aims to offer these people a wealth of events and activities to bring the Milanese summer to life.
Every Friday and Saturday. The historic Milan club Atomic Bar gives itself an industrial- summer makeover, setting up in the BASE courtyard for the whole summer and bringing with it a repertoire of indie anthems and Italian dance mash-ups.
Every Tuesday. A showcase for new talents, put together by Musicraiser Unplugged and I Distratti. At the Musicraiser Unplugged events two up-and-coming line-ups will get the chance to play and introduce the crowdfunding campaign they have underway. I Distratti welcome to the stage Persian Pellican, Gio Evan, Guappecarto, Stag, and Cucina Sonora.
From screen-printing to storytelling techniques, photography to SEO writing, collage to skateboarding, campoBASE is a programme featuring over 40 workshops for learning fresh techniques and art forms as well as picking up new skills.

Every Thursday, from July 6 to August 31. A selection celebrating the years of the economic boom and downturn, from the ’50s to the ’70s: the years of the popularisation of loisir and the “summer holiday”, formative years for widespread pop culture in Italy, from “pink neo-realism” to moody crime dramas and the sexy Italian comedy of the ’70s. In collaboration with Longtake. The film programme includes: Domenica d’agosto, La spiaggia, I mostri, Casotto, Fiorina la Vacca, Avere vent’anni.
Tickets: 3 euros
Every Thursday from July 6, after the screening as part of the Cinema Boom line-up, the BASE courtyard comes to life with our indie-dance night. As Milan becomes ever more caught up in rap and electronica, Karmadrome sets out to rediscover the sound of ’80s and ’90s indie new wave and English/American post-punk, all in the post-industrial setting of the courtyard.
DJs Carlo Villa and Tommaso Toma
On three Sundays this summer the main hall at BASE will be transformed into a rockabilly dancehall for jive dancing, where rock’n’roll meets boogie and flirts with the blues. With jack’n’jill style dance contests, pompadour hairstyles, pin-up style make-up and hoop skirts.
July 9 and 30
Two dates dedicated to arcade and board games. Games for adults, a healthy cure-all against the gangers of gambling addiction.
July 17: Board games galore
An evening of board games, from great classics to role play. Pull up a chair.
August 2: Insert coin
BASE’s main hall is transformed into an arcade full of electronic games, vintage pin-ball machines, table football and ping pong.
